![]() Need to take off the winter chill? Check out these smoking salsa piano sequences, as performed by Rebeca Mauleón-Santana, the author of our January 1996 cover story, The Heart of Salsa . Almost all of the numerous examples in the article are here in single-track (type 0) Standard MIDI File format. Example 6 is in multitrack (type 1) format, since it includes a clave part, which is mapped to MIDI channel 10. Examples 9 through 18 do not have the clave sequenced in; the correct clave is indicated at the beginning of each notated example in the article. All you have to do is sequence it in yourself; an excellent first step in the process of becoming a fluent salsero or salsera . Note that most of the examples begin with a bar of silence to accommodate pickups, and although repeats are indicated in the printed music, you will have to loop the MIDI files. If you'd like to hear a master at work, we have audio files of Rebeca playing many of these same passages. --Ernie Rideout Salsa Example 1 Salsa Example 2 Salsa Example 5 Salsa Example 6 Salsa Example 9 Salsa Example 10 Salsa Example 11a Salsa Example 11b Salsa Example 11c Salsa Example 12a Salsa Example 12b Salsa Example 12c Salsa Example 13 Salsa Example 14 Salsa Example 15a Salsa Example 15b Salsa Example 15c Salsa Example 16a Salsa Example 16b Salsa Example 16c Salsa Example 17 Salsa Example 18a Salsa Example 18b |
